The Bahamian-Canadian duo of No. 3 seeds Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor defeated No. 13 seeds Leander Paes of India and David Rikl of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-3 at the US Open Friday for their second Grand Slam title after the 2002 Australian Open.
In the process the duo overtook American twins Bob and Mike Bryan for No. 1 on the ATP Team Rankings.
The Bryan's results have suffered this summer due to the play of Mike, who will likely require hip surgery before the end of 2004.
Nestor and Knowles have now won four titles this year including Marseille, Barcelona, and the Masters Series-Cincinnati.
