While the Bryan brothers have no chance of finishing the year No. 1, they started strong in the defense of their Masters Cup Doubles title Saturday with a 6-3, 7-6(4) win over Argentines Gaston Etlis and Martin Rodriguez.
Other winners were Zimbabwe's Wayne Black/Kevin Ullyett (d. Martin Damm/Cyril Suk) and
Jonas Bjorkman/Todd Woodbridge (d. Mahesh Bhupathi/Max "The Beast" Mirnyi).
