Posted on April 15, 2005

Lindsay Davenport retired from the WTA Charleston Family Circle Cup quarterfinals against Justine Henin-Hardenne after splitting the first two sets with a hip injury.

Davenport had treatment to her right hip midway through the first set, then quit at 0-1 in the third.

Henin-Hardenne will face Tatiana Golovin, who defeated Nadia Petrova, in the Saturday semifinals.

"This really has been a great tournament for me," Golovin said. "I stayed calm and focused. I think this is the level where I want to be playing and where I want to be winning against these players, and I want to be in the semis and the finals of these kind of big tournaments, and even bigger ones, like the slams."

The other Fridya quarterfinals are Elena Dementieva vs. Katarina Srebotnik, and Patty Schnyder vs. Nicole Vaidisova.
