Pin Drops Friday at WTA Bangalore

With Sania Mirza and most of the fans exiting the WTA stop in Bangalore Wednesday, (3) Mara Santangelo (d. Obziler from a set down) and (6) Jelena Kostanic (d. Kanepi) brought the star power to a new level Thursday, advancing into the quarterfinals.

"I knew it was going to be a tough match and it was," said Santangelo of her spot-on prediction. "She is so hard to play against. I know I was up and then lost the first set, but I don't think I did anything wrong, it's just that she gets everything back and fights so hard. I had to really concentrate and I tried hitting a little harder and in the end that made the difference."

Also into the quarters Thursday were un-seeds Maria Elena Camerin (d. (Q) Kudryavtseva) and Yuliana Fedak (d. (WC) Lakhani).

Matching up for the Friday quarterfinals are Pin vs. King, Kostanic vs. Camerin, Czink vs. A.Bondarenko, and Santangelo vs. Fedak.
