Americans Frazier, Craybas in WTA Memphis SemisPosted on February 24, 2006 No. 3 seed Sofia Arvidsson won a 7-5, 6-4 encounter Thursday at the WTA stop in Memphis against Danish wildcard teenager Caroline Wozniacki, currently one of the top junior players in the world, to gain her second career WTA semifinal.
Also into the semifinals were No. 6 Marta Domachowska (d. (4) Granville), and Americans (7) Amy Frazier (d. countrywoman Perry 7-6 in the third) and (8) Jill Craybas (d. countrywoman Osterloh). "It's really exciting," Domachowska said of her semifinal berth. "If I have to be honest, two months ago they were writing at home that it was over for me and that I won't play any more. But I think I am starting to play good." Frazier, at 33 years the oldest player in the draw, won her 491st career singles match to gain the semis. Domachowska and Craybas will face each other in the semifinals in their first encounter on the tour, with Frazier taking on Arvidsson. |
