JACKSONVILLE, Fla (March 21, 2006) -- According to a Tennis-X.com poll, tennis fans are wary but do favor the new instant replay challenge system that debuts at the Tennis Masters Series Miami on Wednesday.

The poll surveyed approximately 470 Tennis-X.com website visitors, 61 percent of who said they are in favor of implementing the new system that will give players on the stadium court in Miami two challenges per set.

"There's going to be two video boards on the center court that will be visible by the players, the chair umpire and all the spectators," said Gayle Bradshaw, ATP Doubles Commissioner. "Once a challenge is made, then the review official that's with the technicians, once he determines that the correct impact has been identified, gives the order to release the video to the boards. Then everybody will see the result at the same time. The entire process will take less than 10 seconds."

At the same time, a large 38 percent of fans say they disagreed with implementing the video replay, with fears ranging from the slowing of play to the end of watching players yelling at umpires and draining emotion from the game.

"The fan fears are unfounded. Say that nine-times fast," said Tennis-X.com Senior Writer Richard Vach. "This will add even more emotion to the game, from players bitching about calls but coming up short of using a challenge, to getting challenges wrong after throwing a fit, to hearing the crowd explode when a favorite player wins a challenge on a big point. It's going to be fun, and people are going to be asking there wasn't a bigger effort to make this happen years ago."

One percent of fans polled responded "What is it?", and another one percent responded "Who cares!"
