Larsson, Ferreira in Seniors Memphis Final
Posted on October 8, 2006Wayne Ferreira advanced to his first Outback Senior Tour final Saturday, completing a perfect round robin record with a 7-5, 6-2 win over former No. 1 Mats Wilander.
In the final the South African will face Swedish senior tour newcomer Magnus Larsson, who eased past Aaron Krickstein 6-2, 6-3 in his final round robin match.
"It's going to be fun (to play in the Sunday final)," Larsson said. "I've known Wayne since a long time, he's one year younger than me, but we both played a lot of good matches, close ones. Wayne is a great tennis player who has played well here, so it's going to be hard work, but I like playing tennis. I don't mind grinding out there."
In other round robin matches, Todd Martin beat Pat Cash 6-4, 6-3, and John McEnroe beat Jim Courier 6-4, 6-3.
McEnroe and Martin will face off for the 3rd/4th place match on Sunday.
"He (Courier) and I have had a lot of close matches," McEnroe said. "I got up early and he came back, and then I had that run in the second set and lost it, but I felt like I returned well. It's disappointing to not play in the finals, so I got to go in tomorrow afternoon and play for pride. This is I think the fourth time Todd and I will have played and he's 2-1 up."
