Last Americans Mattek, Lepchenko Exit WTA Ponte Vedra Beach

No. 8 seed Bethanie Mattek-Sands was one of two Americans standing Thursday morning at the MPS Group Championships in Ponte Vedra Beach, then Thursday night became the last American out with a 6-3, 7-5 loss to wildcard Daniela Hantuchova.

The Woz's had a good day in PVB, with No. 2-seeded Dane Caroline Wozniacki topping France's Virginie Razzano 6-3, 7-5, and No. 5-seeded Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak outlasting German Sabine Lisicki 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-4.

Austrian Tamira Paszek also gained the quarterfinals, beating American lucky loser Varvara Lepchenko 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Scheduled for the Friday quarterfinals are Paszek vs. (5) Wozniak, Russian (1) Nadia Petrova vs. (7) Alona Bondarenko, Russian Elena Vesnina vs. Slovak (3) Dominika Cibulkova, and (WC) Hantuchova vs. (2) Wozniacki.
