In close leg shaves, (11)Dokic d. Elena "I Almost" Baltacha in three sets, former champion (18)Martinez d. Sequera in three, (21)Bovina d. Obata 8-6 in the third, and (31)Likhovtseva d. Lee-Waters 8-6 in the third. In unseeded highlights, Maria Sharapova pummeled Ashley Harkleroad 6-2, 6-1 in the race to see who will be the next Anna, with the exception of actually winning matches.
