ATP REVIEW/PREVIEWRoddick wins biggest title of career in Canada (ATP)
Andy Roddick weathered two rain delays Sunday at the TMS-Canada in pounding David Nalbandian 6-1, 6-3 for his career-first Tennis Masters Series win and fourth title on the year. "Andy didn't have to do too many things today," Nalbandian said. "I couldn't play my game." Roddick rises to No. 4 in the ATP Rankings, and is now 24-2 under coach Brad "Damn I'm Annoying" Gilbert. "It's my biggest title so far," said Roddick, who was watched in the stands by girlfriend Mandy Moore whom he met a year ago in Canada. "Hopefully it will be a good stepping stone to the (US) Open." In the doubles final, top seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi won their third title of the year by defeating No. 4 seeds Jonas Bjorkman and Todd Woodbridge. In a repeat of the Wimbledon final, Bhupathi-Mirnyi denied Woodbridge the opportunity to claim his 77th doubles title and tie John McEnroe for second place in the Open Era titles list.

Seeds on court Monday at the TMS-Cincinnati (see tournament preview) are (4)Moya vs. Santoro, (13)Gonzalez vs. (WC)Vahaly, (11)Schalken vs. H.-T. Lee, Rusedski vs. (12)Novak, Henman vs. (6)Coria, (17)Mantilla vs. (WC)Enqvist, and (16)Verkerk vs. (Q)Okun.

WTA REVIEW/PREVIEWClijsters the 12th No. 1 (WTA)
Kim Clijsters is the new No. 1 on the WTA Tour Rankings after outlasting former No. 1 Lindsay Davenport 6-1 in the third set Sunday in the LA heat. "This is a day I'll never forget," said Clijsters after collecting her tour-leading sixth title of the year, and raising her record on the year to 6-5 in finals. "There were so many things going through my mind (during the match)." The 20-year-old waffle is the first player to ascend to No. 1 without winning a slam, reaching an amazing three semis, five finals, and winning six titles in her 14 tournaments this year. In the doubles final, wildcards Mary Pierce and Rennae Stubbs won their first title as a team with a win over Elena Bovina and Els Callens.

In Helsinki, Anna Pistolesi won her second consecutive WTA Tour title, defeating qualifier Jelena Kostanic 6-0 in the third, and raising her record in career finals to 8-0. Kostanic led by a set and a service break in the second set in her first career final, serving at 6-4, 4-3 before Pistolesi rallied to win nine straight games. "It's a great feeling to win 10 matches and two tournaments in a row," Pistolesi said. "I'm very proud of what I've been able to achieve these past two weeks. I'm a little tired after all the matches but I still feel great." In the doubles final, (2)Koulikovskaya/Tatarkova beat Perebiynis/Talaja (who were appearing in their second consecutive final) for their first title as a team.

On court today in Toronto are Farina Elia vs. Srebotnik, Craybas vs. Drake, Zvonareva vs. Schett, Molik vs. Dementieva, Loit vs. Maroin, Gagliardi vs. Widjaja, Pisnik vs. Serna, Granville vs. Ruano Pascual, Pratt vs. Ko, Razzano vs. Parra, Zuluaga vs. Tu, Obata vs. Asagoe, Camerin vs. LL, and Randriantefy vs. Bartoli.
