ATP REVIEW/PREVIEWMoya may have lost, but surely he had a babe to sooth his anger (ATP)
Only three of eight seeded players in action Monday at the TMS-Cincinnati advanced, with losers including defending champion (4)Moya (l. to Santoro in three, blowing two break points in the final game to get back on serve), (12)Novak (l. to Rusedski in three), (15)Robredo (l. to Mathieu in three), (16)Verkerk (l. to (Q)Okun 6-1 in the third), and (17)Mantilla (l. to Enqvist). Moya has three straight first-round losses since he won the title in Croatia last month. "I have no confidence right now," Moya said. "When you have no confidence, you don't know what to do...Yeah, it's a bad loss. You know, lately I've lost a few first-round matches and I'm not full of confidence." The three seeds who lived to see another day were (6)Coria (d. Henman in three), (11)Schalken (d. H.-T. Lee), and (13)Gonzalez (d. Vahaly). Un-seeds of note advancing were Blake (d. Ferreira), (Q)Arazi (d. Chang 6-0 in the third, with Chang blowing a match point), (WC)T.Martin (d. Acasuso), and Ginepri (d. Stepanek 6-0 in the third). "You know, you're serving for the match, then you get a match point, it's a little bit discouraging," Chang said. "Then just for some reason, the old energy level kind of went down. Hicham picked up his game a little bit, and the third set went pretty quick. I think I got a little bit nervous serving for it at 65. I threw in a couple doubles. That really didn't help my cause too much." Nice way to end a career, showing that mental toughness.

Matches of note Tuesday are (Q)Draper vs. (3)Federer (first meeting), Philippoussis vs. Fish (Fish leads head-to-head 1-0), (5)Hewitt vs. Malisse, (Q)Verdasco vs. (7)Roddick, (8)Schuettler vs. (Q)Koubek (Koubek leads 2-1), F.Lopez vs. (9)Srichaphan, Davydenko vs. (2)Ferrero (first meeting), (10)Grosjean vs. (Q)Moodie, Zabaleta vs. (14)Kuerten, Spadea vs. El Aynaoui, Clement vs. Costa, Kafelnikov vs. Gambill (Y-Man leads 2-0), and Corretja vs. Mirnyi.
