Mentally-Fragile Henman Ousted at ATP Hamburg

NEWS, NOTES, QUOTES AND BARBS
Thomas Muster won his first Delta Senior Tour of Champions title Tuesday with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Mats Wilander in the Rome final. "It feels really good -- it's my fourth Rome title which is really awesome and I'm happy to get my first Champions Tour event win under my belt," Muster said. "I prepared very well, I've been practicing really hard, I'm in great shape and it paid off."...Greg Rusedski was confirmed in the French Open draw on Wednesday after the withdrawal of American Mardy Fish who is suffering a hip injury. The Brit has lost in the first round four times in his last six appearances...Thomas Muster has apparently picked up a bit of an Aussie accent after living in those parts since his retirement ('I will crush you...mate.')...Guillermo Coria won his 28th straight match on clay Wednesday...Amelie Mauresmo says her back injury looks waylaid in her French Open preparation: "Things are going better and better, and my back is fine for the moment." Goran Ivanisevic continues to suffer shoulder problems, losing in the first round of the Zagreb Challenger doubles, playing with a 15-year-old fellow Croat, saying his serve is now so weak that he would struggle to beat the Williams sisters. "My serve is not as good as it used to be. Other guys hit much harder...Now I am ideal for women's tennis. Serena, Venus and me -- what a fight that would be."...The ATP Beijing event announced an agreement with national network China Central Television (CCTV) that will result in the biggest domestic television broadcast of any tennis tournament in the world. Ma Guoli, president of CCTV Sports said, "CCTV reaches over one billion people while CCTV5 reaches over 700 million people. Without question, we are looking at reach the largest domestic audience for any tennis event in history."...Greek police have briefly detained five British and German journalists who illegally entered two main Olympic sports complexes at night, Athens Games officials say. That's some nice pre-Olympic security...Celebrities at the Heat-Pacers game last night in Miami included Andy Roddick, singer Jon Secada, actor David Caruso and former NBA player Rony Seikaly and his wife, swimsuit model Elsa Benitez...Here's Mats Wilander on a variety of subjects: "I think that Tim Henman is going to win Wimbledon at some point in his life. Unfortunately, Pete Sampras was playing at the same time as Tim so that made it basically impossible to win Wimbledon then, but to me, Henman looks like a better player every year. It seems like his game has a little more power every year. He's changed coaches and it seems like he now knows that he can't play only a finesse game and that he needs to add a little more power -- get him hitting his first serve harder than he used to. On grass these days, if it's a wet Wimbledon, if the courts are pretty fast, I think Henman is one of the favorites. Phil Mickleson won the Masters in golf and some players you just know are going to win a major at some point. It's written in the stars...I think Roger Federer is most probably a better tennis player than Pete Sampras was, and I think he will go into all four majors every year for the next 5, 6, 7 years, if he's healthy, thinking he can win -- and I think the other players know that he can win. I think that even spills over into the French Open. Sampras was never a threat at the French Open but he was very dominant in the other three. I think Federer can win all four of them."
