Hewitt Rips Robredo to Reach First Cincinnati Masters FinalPosted on August 7, 2004
The 23-year-old Hewitt broke Robredo’s serve three times and lost only six points on his serve to enter his first Masters final of the year. He will face for the winner of tonight's blockbuster clash between No. 11 seed Andre Agassi and defending champion Andy Roddick. Agassi leads the series 4-1, but Roddick won 6-1, 6-7(5), 7-6(6) the last time in Queen's 2003. Hewitt holds a winning record over both his potential final opponents leading Roddick 3-1 and Agassi 4-3 in previous encounters. "Andy's obviously full of confidence at the moment,” said Hewitt. "He loves playing these tournaments, this American swing now. It's not going to be an easy match for him tonight against Andre, though. "For the first time in a while, Andre's pretty much got nothing to lose. I think everyone's probably expecting Andy to win. And Andre, he loves big matches, and he loves playing - he's a showman out there as well. I think he likes playing center stage night matches." Hewitt, who has not dropped a set this week, will be seeking his third title of the year following wins in Sydney and Rotterdam, and his 22nd career overall. With the win, the Australian moved into outright fifth place in Race standing and has also improved his position in the newly-created US Open Series. The 54-minutes loss for Robredo slumps his career record in ATP semifinals to 4-13. |
