Vaidisova Gunning for 3rd Title in 3 Weeks at WTA Bangkok
Posted on October 13, 2005Disparate Top 2 seeds Nicole Vaidisova (d. Spears) and Nadia Petrova (d. Llagostera Vives) led the winners in straight sets Wednesday at the WTA stop in Bangkok. The teenage Vaidisova is seeking her third title in three weeks, while the veteran Petrova is still seeking her first career title.
"Sure, I have a little confidence after winning two titles, but everything is new here," Vaidisova said. "It is new balls, a new court and different temperatures. It's very different than Seoul and Tokyo. It was a slow start but then I got more comfortable in the second set and was able to get the win."
Completing second-round matches with berths into the quarterfinals were (3) Gisela Dulko (d. (WC) Ruano Pascual), (8) Shahar Peer (d. (LL) Perry 7-6 in the third), and French qualifier Stephanie Foretz (d. Sucha).
Scheduled for Thursday are Mirza vs. Yuan, Petrova vs. Obata, Viratprasert vs. Vaidisova, An.Serra Zanetti vs. Czink, and Martinez vs. Castano.
