McEnroe Thumped by Cash at Seniors Rome
Posted on May 15, 2006No. 3-ranked John McEnroe's mission to catch the idle No. 1 Marcelo Rios and No. 2 Jim Courier took a hit Sunday when the American struggled on the red clay at the Merrill Lynch Tour of Champions event in Rome, losing 6-2, 6-4 to Pat Cash in round robin play.
Other winners Sunday were Spaniard Sergi Bruguera who outlasted Henri Leconte 4-6, 6-3, 10-6, and Germany's Carl-Uwe Steeb who beat Switzerland's Claudio Mezzadri 6-2, 7-6(4).
On tap for Monday in Rome are McEnroe vs. Cedric Pioline, Cash vs. Renzo Furlan, and Leconte vs. Mezzadri.
