Frenchwoman
Tatiana Golovin orchestrated the lone upset Friday at the WTA stop in Stanford, ousting No. 4 seed Anna-Lena Groenefeld 6-4, 7-6(5) to advance into the semifinals at the Bank of the West Classic.
"There were so many close points that the difference was just millimeters," Groenefeld said. "I tried to dictate points, but her game is the same way and she is very strong on her forehand side and can control points with it well."
The top three seeds moved into the semis in (1)
Kim Clijsters (d. (WC) Zvonareva 6-1 in the third), (2)
Patty Schnyder (d. Craybas), and (3)
Nicole Vaidisova (d. Stosur).
Saturday's match-ups are Clijsters vs. Vaidisova, and Golovin vs. Schnyder.
