US Open Switches from USA Network to Tennis Channel Monday OnlyPosted on September 1, 2006 According to Comcast cable, a possible Monday-night meeting at the US Open between Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick will be switched from USA Network to The Tennis Channel at 9 p.m. on the East Coast in the U.S.
It was not immediately known whether the switch was due to previously-scheduled programming on USA Network. "It will be the world feed so there will be no commercials, and instead short tennis-related spots will be aired," said a Comcast representative. Programming will also be diverted to CNBC. Yesterday Comcast Digital subscribers in Jacksonville, Fl., received The Tennis Channel free, available through Tuesday as the area network attempts to lure more subscribers to The Tennis Channel, which is not on basic cable but a packaged "sports tier." "TTC will program toward the US Open throughout the day starting at 8 a.m. Eastern time with a repeat of the prior day's US Open press conferences," read a statement. "A live press conference will air later in the day at 6 p.m. At p p.m. USA Network will announce that its East feed -- which services both the ET and CT time zones -- will be changing to other programming. The announcers will be different than USA's...we think they are likely to be Taylor Dent and Virginia Wade. TTC will present this coverage free of all national sponsorship and advertising, and with only two interruptions for breaks per hour to meet our affiliate obligations. The World Feed continues to produce during all change-overs, and does quite a bit of highlights, updates from other courts, etc. that USA can't do due to a large amount of inventory, so we will have a very comprehensive and informational production." |
