Rios v Ivanisevic in Seniors Paris FinalPosted on September 17, 2006 Marcelo Rios will face Goran Ivanisevic in the Sunday final at the Merrill Lynch Tour of Champions stop at Paris, with the Croat losing to Sergi Bruguera in straight sets in his last round robin match, but sporting a good enough round robin record to reach the final.
"Rios is definitely beatable," Ivanisevic said. "I will need to serve well, better than I did today, but I'm capable of doing it." Rios beat Thomas Muster 6-2, 7-5 in his final round robin match to reach his fifth final of the year in his fifth tournament. "I'm looking forward to playing Goran on clay -- it's my surface, and I think we can make a nice match," Rios said. Other winners were Cedric Pioline beating French compatriot Guy Forget 4-6, 6-4, 11-9, and Richard Krajicek leading Pat Cash 4-1 when the Aussie retired with a foot injury. The playoff for 3rd/4th place on Sunday will be between Muster and Pioline. WORLD SENIOR RANKINGS presented by Tennis-X.com (through Sept. 10, 2006) 1. Marcelo Rios (1600 pts.) 2.
