Bartoli Top Seed at WTA Tokyo

While world No. 1 Roger Federer leads the men's side of the Japan Open this week, the women's side is decidedly more downbeat, with no Top 20-ranked players in the field that is headed by France's Marion Bartoli.

Other seeds are Japan's Ai Sugiyama, Russian Maria Kirilenko, Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues, Swede Sofia Arvidsson, Argentine Gisela Dulko, Czech Lucie Safarova, and American Meghann Shaughnessy.

Failing to defend her title is Nicole Vaidisova, who defeated Golovin in last year's final when the Frenchwoman retired in the second set with an Achilles injury.
