Borg, McEnroe Ready for Seniors Liege in Belgium

Posted on November 7, 2007

The BlackRock Tour of Champions arrives this week in Liege, Belgium for the Panasonic Legends Cup as the race to qualify for the BlackRock Masters Tennis at the Royal Albert Hall in London gathers pace.

Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe will continue their legendary rivalry when they face each other for the second time in as many months on Saturday. McEnroe won a pulsating encounter 7-6, 7-6 at the Alex Tennis Classics in Eindhoven last month. It was their first match in five years.

"I've been pumping some more iron to get ready for this one," joked McEnroe. "I'm planning on wearing a sleeveless shirt like Rafael Nadal to try to intimidate Bjorn!"

For Borg, the trip to Liege is a special one, as he has a long association with Belgium.

"I've been to Belgium many, many times because my Donnay racquet was manufactured there, and I always like to go back there," said Borg. "I have been to Liege also, and it's going to be a lot of fun to play."

Borg and McEnroe have both been drawn into Group A alongside Henri Leconte and Mansour Bahrami.
In Group B, Guy Forget, Magnus Gustaffson, Anders Jarryd and Paul Haarhuis will fight out the round-robin stages for a place in Sunday's final.

All players will play each other over the first three days, and the players finishing top of each group will meet each other in the final. Those finishing second in each group will contest the 3rd/4th place play-off.

Matches are played over the best of three sets, with a Champions' Tie-break (first two 10 points with a clear advantage of two) the winner.

After Liege, the tour will move on next week to the Champions Trophy in Frankfurt (November 15-18), then a new event in Sao Paulo, Brazil (November 22-25) before arriving in London for the BlackRock Masters Tennis at the Royal Albert Hall (December 4-9).

Borg will play at all of those events.

Borg and McEnroe have also renewed their rivalry in a hilarious commercial for the Tesco supermarket. To view the commercial, click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwkpYD-_vrk
