Borg v Ivanisevic, Krajicek This Week at Seniors Frankfurt

Posted on November 14, 2007

Since Bjorn Borg returned to the BlackRock Tour of Champions in August, he has performed admirably against some great players while avoiding the Tour's biggest hitters. That is about to change.

In Frankfurt on Nov. 15, at the Klarmobile.de Champions Trophy, the Swede will be joined by the huge-serving trio of Goran Ivanisevic, Richard Krajicek and Michael Stich. All are former Wimbledon champions, and if that were not enough, 1987 Wimbledon champion Pat Cash will also be in the field.

In the final last year, Ivanisevic won the title, beating John McEnroe 7-6(12), 7-6(1) in probably the greatest match the BlackRock Tour of Champions has ever known. The quality was exceptional throughout, and the Croatian needed every last one of his 20 aces to win through.

This time, Ivanisevic has been grouped with Cash, the 1995 French Open champion Thomas Muster and two-time BlackRock Masters Tennis Champion Paul Haarhuis.

Borg is joined in the round-robin stages by Krajicek, Stich and fellow Swede Anders Jarryd.

All players will play each other over the first three days, and the players finishing top of each group will meet each other in the final. Those finishing second in each group will contest the 3rd/4th place play-off.

Matches are played over the best of three sets, with a Champions' Tie-break (first two 10 points with a clear advantage of two) the winner.

After Frankfurt, the BlackRock Tour of Champions will visit South America for the first time, with the Nossa Caixa Grand Champions Brasil taking place in Sao Paulo, Brazil (November 22-25). That will be the final event before the Tour arrives in London for the BlackRock Masters Tennis at the Royal Albert Hall (December 4-9).

Borg will play at both of those events.
