Alex Molcan Bio

  • • Began playing tennis at age 5.
  • • Mother, Andrea, is a physiotherapist and moved with her son to Bratislava when he was 12 to provide him with better training.
    > "I didn't know anyone," said Molcan of moving to Bratislava at age 12. "I went to school there and it was hard because I was one guy from another city. Every player has to sacrifice something to be good. My mom sacrificed a lot for me to get where I am today. She always supported me to play tennis and she changed her life because of me."
  • • Tennis idol is Rafael Nadal for his fighting spirit, mentality and forehand.
  • • Says that facing Novak Djokovic in 2021 Belgrade-2 final boosted his confidence and changed his career. "Playing against Djokovic showed me it’s not about playing crazy fast or trying to be extremely aggressive, it’s about the head," said Molcan. "It looks like Djokovic is playing chess."
  • • Favourite city on tour is Rome for its beauty, statues and mythology.
  • • Has many tattoos on both arms and his chest, including mother's birthdate, a tiger, and symbols from Roman mythology and Japanese culture (temple, lotus flower and buddha).
  • • Favourite sport is football and is a fan of Manchester City, Lionel Messi and Kevin De Bruyne.
  • • Biggest passion outside tennis is cars (Ferraris and BMWs). Owns a BMW 340i. Likes watching Drive to Survive on Netflix.
  • • Favourite food is sushi. Also enjoys pancakes with Nutella and whipped cream.
  • • Dream job is businessman. "It's similar to tennis," said Molcan. "If you want to be good, you have to work at it. If you want to earn the money, you need to work crazy hard to be there. I like it. You have to build your brand."
  • • Afraid of spiders and snakes.
  • • Did not play from October 2017 through April 2018 due to wrist surgery and a torn abdominal muscle.
