Hi Venus,
I wondered if you had any words of inspiration for my daughter who is in a
similar situation as you were when you were growing up in your sport.
I'm a single mom and not wealthy, but my daughter has excelled in the sport
of volleyball. (very expensive)She is proving to be exceptional in the
sport, but it has become very clear to me that she is not getting the
treatment she deserves due to me, and what I believe is my outspokenness.
I don't go into tirades or push her like she's a meal ticket. Her drive is
purely her own. (I don't mean to sound suggestive) I just want to support
her in in every way I can, and I refuse to sit idle when I see
discrimination against anyone.
I also happen to be a woman of color and she is blended. I think the
comfort level of the predominantly non-colored people is a big part of our
struggles.
I don't want to hurt her success in the sport, I just don't know how to
explain to her why she keeps getting cut short of her ambitions, without
making myself look like the bad guy.
If you have an Perls of experience and wisdom to share, I would be deeply
grateful.
Your words would be gospel. She would appreciate and can use any form of
positive affirmation at this point.
