In Bucharest they will attempt to play the semifinals and final on Sunday due to rain, with one quarterfinal match still to be completed. On Saturday three players dirtballed their way into the semis in (4)Sanchez (d. (5)Mathieu in three), (2)Massu (d. Hanescu), and to the delight of locals, Romanian (WC)Sabau (d. (3)Sargsian in three). In the one postponed quarterfinal, Acasuso leads van Lottum 4-6, 6-2, 2-1. Today's wacky schedule is Acasuso vs. van Lottum to finish, (WC)Sabau vs. (2)Massu, Acasuso or van Lottum vs. (4)Sanchez, then the singles final.

In Brazil the Sunday final will be (1)Schuettler (d. (3)Kuerten 7-5 in the third) against (2)Schalken (d. (Q)Etlis who retired in the second set with injury) in a battle to see who has the least personality. The German hasn't won a title since 2001 Shanghai, and has lost his last two meetings with the Dutch robot, who won the grasscourt title earlier in the year at 's-Hertogenbosch.

Top-seeded Chanda Rubin looked dazed and confused as she received a merciless beating 6-1, 6-2 at the hands of No. 2 seed Elena Dementieva in the Bali final Sunday. "This is my best match of the year," said Dementieva, who broke the American right off the bat in both sets, and closed the deal in just over an hour. "I am usually a slow starter but today I did it from the beginning." Rubin had beaten Dementieva in two of their three previous meetings, but this time never gave herself a chance with a bevy of unforced errors. In the doubles final, top seeds Vento-Kabchi/Widjaja beat Loit/Pratt 7-5, 6-2.

It seems obvious that several newspapers and magazines will be from now on 'persona non grata,' because of their disparaging columns and other 'sensational' articles, whose goal is to gain a reaction from Kim and her entourage. People who wish to increase their circulation by this manner can go on their way, they are no longer welcome." That will be a welcome silence, except for nutty father Leo, who we always like to hear from -- give us a call Leo...Two black umpires are suing the USTA for discrimination: "There is not much opportunity for African-Americans," said Cecil Holland, who is black and has officiated pro tennis matches for 17 years.
