Johansson Ousts Seeded Lopez at ATP BangkokPosted on September 28, 2004 Unseeded Swede and former Australian Open winner Thomas "Tommy the J." Johansson began the Thailand Open in Bangkok in suspenseful fashion Monday, saving two match points en route to upsetting No. 6 seed Feliciano "F-Lo" Lopez 6-1, 2-6, 7-6(5)."It was very close and it's not everyday you win when you're two match points down," said Tommy the J. "The first set I played well and he played bad. In the second he played better and put more balls in the court. The third set, we both had opportunities. It's great to beat a guy like Lopez." In the only other main draw match played, Brazil's Flavio "Of the Day" Saretta spanked Indian wildcard Prakash Amritraj in straight sets. The singles qualifying was also completed, with four onto the big dance in Crabb (AUS), Iwabuchi (JPN), Wassen (NED), and Kohlmann. Brit Arvind Parmar also went into the main draw as a lucky loser after Todd Reid withdrew with injury. On court Tuesday at the ATP stop in Bangkok are van Scheppingen vs. (WC) Djokovic, Gimelstob vs. (5) Dent in an all-"C"-squad American (Gimelstob won their last meeting), (1) Federer vs. Thomann, Baccanello vs. Rosset, Iwabuchi vs. Garcia, Morrison vs. Kohlmann, and Savolt vs. Heuberger. I wasn't as nervous as last year when I played in the main draw here, I was happy with the way I handled it this time but I should have played better." The four qualifiers were also determined Monday in Spain's Galo Blanco (who won two qualifying matches Monday), former top 20-ranked Argentine Mariano "Pee in the Cup" Puerta, Spain's Nicolas Almagro, and Italy's Alessio Di Mauro.
