Roger Federer tore a thigh muscle this morning while warming up for his first-round match at the Swiss Indoors in Basel, forcing him to withdraw from the tournament and perhaps also miss the Masters Series-Paris and the year-ending Masters Cup.
Doctors said the Swiss would be out a minimum 10 days, depending on how quickly the injury healed, and there is a chance he could compete in Houston at the Masters Cup beginning Nov. 15.
The 23-year-old has already sewn up the year-end No. 1 ATP Ranking, and was seeking his career-first title in Basel, the same event he worked as a ball boy in his youth. Federer was also born in Basel.
