Monfils Continues Rookie Conquests at ATP Milan
Posted on February 1, 2005Only three main draw matches at the ATP stop in Milan Monday, with both seeds in action advancing in (2) Ivan Ljubicic (d. Enqvist) and (7) Karol Beck (d. Hanescu), and 18-year-old wildcard Gael Monfils defeating Julien "United Colors of" Benneteau in an all-French meeting.
The final round of qualifying was also completed, with four onto the big dance in the Ukraine's Sergiy "Stakhouse" Stakhovsky, and three Italians to the glee of homecountry fans in Giorgio Galimberti, Uros Vico, and Daniele "Choppin'" Bracciali.
Scheduled for Tuesday in Milan are (3) Mario "Baby Goran" Ancic vs. Ulihrach, (Q) Vico vs. (WC) Seppi in an all-Italian, (Q) Galimberti vs. Ivo "I Dated Hingis" Heuberger, (Q) Daniele "Choppin'" Bracciali vs. (4) Stepanek, (6) Rainer "Shine" Schuettler vs. Sanguinetti, and Christophe "The Roach" Rochus vs. (Q) Stakhovsky.
