Hewitt Out, Agassi In for ATP Masters Series MiamiPosted on March 22, 2005 A toe injury has taken world No. 2 Lleyton Hewitt out of the ATP Masters Series-Miami, the NASDAQ-100 Open which begins Wednesday, but Tournament Director Adam Barrett says Andre Agassi will play after last week withdrawing from Indian Wells with his own toe injury.
Hewitt failed to toe the line last weekend in the final at Indian Wells, beaten in straight sets by world No. 1 Roger Federer.
"It's unfortunate because Lleyton is a very popular player, very exciting, and some of our best matches here have involved him,'' Barrett said. "He fights for every point, and his matches are always high action. We'll definitely miss him."
Agassi is scheduled to arrive in Miami today after a scheduled exhibition last night in Tampa with senior tour star Jim Courier.
"Everything I'm hearing is that Andre is making his way toward Miami," Barrett said. "It would take a lot for him to miss this tournament. He enjoys Miami. His family enjoys Miami. He loves this tournament. He won't be starting until Friday or Saturday, so he has time to heal."
Agassi is a six-time champion in Miami, with the world No. 1 Federer attempting to capture his first MS-Miami crown.
