The German Open was first contested in 1896, and it was six year before a German won the title. German Steffi Graf's nine titles in Berlin will likely stand the test of time. German Helga Masthoff, whose biography is a blank on the WTA website, is the only player to win multiple singles and doubles titles at Berlin.
