Anastasia Myskina and Kim Clijsters take to the court for the first time since their devastating losses at the French Open this week at the WTA stop in Eastbourne, the Hastings Direct International Championships, headed by top seed Amelie Mauresmo.

Myskina was the defending champ at Roland Garros before making a first-round exit, troubled by a bum shoulder and a life-threatening illness to her mother, while Clijsters had to sleep off choking a 6-1, 3-1 lead before bowing out to Lindsay Davenport in Paris.

Other top seeds are Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, Aussie Alicia Molik looking less-than-sharp while still recovering from an inner ear infection, Russians Vera "The Crying Game" Zvonareva and Elena Likhovtseva, and Frenchwoman Nathalie Dechy.

Early-round matches of interest are (1) Mauresmo vs. surging Serb Ana Ivanovic in the second round, (4) Myskina vs. Daniela Hantuchova in the second round, (5) Zvonareva vs. Czech riser Nicole Vaidisova in her opener with the winner likely facing Karolina "The Spreminator" Sprem, (7) Clijsters vs. last week's Birmingham finalist Jelena Jankovic, an all-wildcard match-up in former Wimbledon winner Conchita Martinez vs. Brit Elena Baltacha, and (2) Kuznetsova vs. Maggie Maleeva in the second round.

Last year Kuznetsova, the only returning champ in the field, came from a set down to claim the title over Hantuchova.

Main draw match on the schedule Monday are Dechy vs. Janes, and Vaidisova vs. Zvonareva.
