No. 1 seed
Maria Sharapova and
Andre Agassi, possibly competing in his last US Open, will kick off play Monday night at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The matches will follow opening-night ceremonies featuring blues legend Bo Diddley, and closing with Ben Vereen singing the National Anthem, backed by the Songs of Solomon Choir from Harlem.
Agassi will face Romanian
Razvan Sabau, while Sharapova squares off in a tougher encounter with Greece's
Eleni Daniilidou.
The on-court ceremonies will also honor US Open Series winners
Andy Roddick and
Kim Clijsters, who as the champions will each earn double their prize money at the Open.
