Safina, Kirilenko Lead Russian Winners at WTA Berlin

Russia's No. 10 seed Dinara Safina (d. Sanchez Lorenzo) and No. 15 Maria Kirilenko (d. Vinci) led the winners Monday at the WTA claycourt stop in Berlin.
The only other seed in action, No. 14 Ai Sugiyama, was outlasted in three sets by France's Virginie Razzano.
A slew of unseeded Russians also advanced into the second round Monday in Anna Chakvetadze (d. Benesova), Vera Zvonareva (d. Dulko from a set down), and Vera Dushevina (d. (Q) Garbin from a set down).
On court Tuesday are Laine vs. Schruff, Dechy vs. Zheng, N.Li vs. Ivanovic, Muller vs. Craybas, Pennetta vs. Hingis, Kloesel vs. Castano, Likhovtseva vs. Pous Tio, Srebotnik vs. Jankovic, Daniilidou vs. Koukalova, Ani vs. Suarez, Panova vs. Medina Garrigues, and Vakulenko vs. Domachowska.
