Peer Remains Perfect in Finals in WTA Prague WinPosted on May 15, 2006 No. 3 seed Shahar Peer won her second title in her second final of 2006 Sunday at the WTA claycourt stop in Prague, coming back from a set down to overwhelm No. 5 seed Sam Stosur 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
"It is my second final and second title, it was great week and I'm happy for that," Peer said. "In the second set I started to play more aggressive, tried to win the first few points and not to let her move me around. My brother and sister are here, also my coach, so I'm really happy." Stosur dropped to 0-3 in finals in 2006. "I started really well the first set, but she definitely picked up her game, made me run, played to my backhand and started to be very aggressive afterwards," Stosur said. "But I'm very pleased with the whole week, it's a lovely tournament and Prague is beautiful, I really love the city and hope to come back." In the rain-delayed doubles final the No.2-seeded team of Peer and Bartoli beat unseeded Americans Ashley Harkleroad and Bethanie Mattek 6-4, 6-4 for their first title as a team. |
