Gasquet v F-Lo in Gstaad FinalPosted on July 16, 2006 Seventh-seeded Richard Gasquet advanced to the final of the Allianz Suisse Open in Gstaad on Saturday by dismissing Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 in one hour, 32 minutes.
The 20-year-old is on a roll after starting the year 4-10. He has won nine of his last 10 matches, including a successful defense of his title at Nottingham last month (d. Bjorkman). The lone loss during that period came to Federer in the first round of Wimbledon. Today's semifinal win means that Gasquet will be contesting in his career fifth ATP final. Alongside with his two titles in Nottingham, Gasquet reached the finals at the ATP Masters Series Hamburg last year and at Metz in 2004. Gasquet will take on Feliciano Lopez on Sunday's final. Lopez, the No.6 seed, outlasted qualifier Marin Cilic 7-6(2), 6-7(5), 6-3 in two hours, 36 minutes to book a spot in the final of an ATP event for the first time since New Haven last year. The left-handed Spaniard fired 27 aces and broke Cilic in three of 13 opportunities. Lopez, currently No.68 in the INDESIT ATP Ranking, improved to 16-18 in 2006. Gasquet leads Lopez 2-0 in their head-to-head series. The last time both players met was at the ATP Masters Series Cincinnati, where the Frenchman won 7-5, 4-6, 6-1. -- ATP |
