Jankovic Upsets Dementieva Amidst Rain at US Open

Only one match was completed due to rain Tuesday at the US Open, with hot-handed No. 19 seed Jelena Jankovic advancing into the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-1 shellacking of No. 4 Elena Dementieva.

Jankovic, who began the year with a 1-10 win-loss record, almost quit tennis to become a full-time student during the slump, but will now face the winner of the quarterfinal between Justine Henin-Hardenne and Lindsay Davenport.

"I didn't expect to win like this," Jankovic said. "I'm really happy. I don't know what I was doing on the court, but I'm so happy to be in the semifinals."

It is the first Slam semifinal appearance for the Serb.

Wednesday highlights in Flushing Meadows are (2) Henin-Hardenne vs. (10) Davenport, (1) Mauresmo vs. (12) Safina, and (3) Sharapova vs. (27) Golovin.
