ATP Releases Statement on Player Gambling InvestigationPosted on August 17, 2007 London, UK -- The ATP, governing body of the men's professional tennis circuit, announced today that, as part of its ongoing investigation into the recent match involving Nikolay Davydenko and Martin Vassallo Arguello in Poland, it will be utilising the assistance of the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) to advise on the conduct of its investigation.
The ATP investigation team will utilise the BHA Integrity Team's expertise in investigating potential corruption in sport. In addition it will also ensure access to resources such as the BHA's sophisticated account analysis tools. To further support the investigation, the ATP will also be engaging two, experienced, independent investigators to support the ongoing process. ATP Executive Chairman Etienne de Villiers said: "We are committed to a thorough, fair and comprehensive ATP investigation and our decision to involve the BHA, as well as employing independent investigators, is testimony to that commitment. It underscores how seriously we regard any suggestion of corruption in our sport. The BHA team are industry leaders in this area and their expertise, knowledge and resource will be invaluable to our investigation." BHA Chief Executive Nic Coward said: "The ATP shares our commitment to integrity and has the same desire to deal properly with any suggestion of corruption and when they approached us requesting our advice and assistance with their investigation we were only too happy to oblige." |
