Clijsters to Announce WTA Comeback on Thursday?

Posted on March 24, 2009

Former No. 1-ranked Kim Clijsters has announced she will hold a press conference on Thursday, when the 25-year-old will "unveil her plans for 2009," possibly to include a comeback announcement.

In the coming months Clijsters has already announced she will participate in a doubles exhibition event at  Wimbledon with Tim Henman, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, and will play the U.S. World TeamTennis league in the summer.

"At this time, Kim has not contacted the tour regarding entry into tour events," WTA spokesman Andrew Walker told The Associated Press.

The Het Belang van Limburg regional newspaper said Clijsters would play tour events, while the VTM television network speculated on her participation in upcoming Grand Slams.

The Clijsters camp has had to comment. Clijsters retired from the WTA Tour in May 2007, marrying and giving birth to a daughter.

Clijsters is also scheduled to play an exhibition on June 14 at the Ordina Open in Rosmalen against Dutch player Michaella Krajicek.

The New York Times is running with Clijsters announcing a comeback, and requesting a wildcard for the US Open.
