Singles Stars Kuznetsova, Mauresmo Top Doubles Specialists in Miami Final Posted on April 6, 2009
Singles beat doubles in the doubles final at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami when wildcard entrants and singles stars Svetlana Kuznetsova and Amelie Mauresmo defeated doubles specialists and No. 3 seeds Kveta Peschke and Lisa Raymond 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 for the title.
"If I played with someone who gave me angry faces and told me how bad I am, definitely I would rather go home and spend time with my family," said Kuznetsova on playing doubles. "But I enjoy playing with Amelie. We have so much fun, and I think we played much better this year than in past years. We would love to play more often, but if it doesn't disturb our singles. This is the key point."
It was the second title for the pair after 2006 Eastbourne, and were runners-up at Wimbledon in 2005.
Kuznetsova could hardly be called a singles specialist with 14 career doubles titles to her credit.
It was the third career doubles title for Mauresmo.
Kuznetsova/Mauresmo also beat two other seeded pairs en route to the final, No. 1 seeds Black/Huber, and No. 8 seeds Llagostera Vives/Martnez Sanchez.
Raymond was seeking her fourth Miami title after winning in 2002 (w/Stubbs) and 2006-07 (w/Stosur).
