Kenin Top Seed In Maiden French-Filled Lyon WTA Tournament
With the Coronavirus now threatening events in Italy and France, among other places, American Sofia Kenin has made her way to France where she’ll be the top seed this upcoming week at the Lyon Indoors.
The Australian Open champion will be joined by a French-heavy field including No. 2 seed Kristina Mladenovic, No. 3 Caroline Garcia and fourth seed Alize Cornet.
Kenin will open against Russian Vitalia Diatchenko while Mladenovic meets her promising young countrywoman Clara Burel.
Kenin and Australian Priscilla Hon are the only non-Europeans in the singles main draw. The two could collide in the second round.
Kenin has gone just 1-3 since her Melbourne win, splitting two matches at Fed Cup before consecutive opening round losses in Dubai (Rybakina) and Doha (Yastremska).
This is the first year for the event in Lyon.
