Capriati Admits Womens Game One-Dimensional

After a three-set win over Vera Douchevina Friday at the US Open, former No. 1 Jennifer Capriati admitted the women's game has devolved into little more than baseline bashing, with power solely dictating play."You know, it's pretty one-dimensional now," Capriati replied to a reporter's question baiting her for a positive comment on the depth of the women's game.
"Everyone's pretty much solid off the ground, so much power off the ground. Maybe you had more different styles of play (in the past)."
Capriati went on to confirm the maw between the top players and the lower echelon.
"I think each generation has its few top players that have been really, really good," Capriati said. "And now, below the Top 20, you'll still have tough matches. But, I mean, there still is a gap, I would say."
Both Capriati and Amelie Mauresmo won 6-0 sets en route to the fourth round on Friday at the US Open.
