Myskina Awaits Opponent in WTA Stockholm Final
Posted on August 14, 2005Anastasia Myskina will get a shot at her first 2005 title Sunday in the final at the WTA stop in Stockholm, but will have to wait until Sunday for her opponent to be determined.
Myskina advanced to the final with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over unseeded Emilie Loit, and in the other semifinal No. 5 seed Katarina Srebotnik led No. 3-seeded Russian Vera Douchevina 6-0, 6-5 when rain suspended play for the day.
"It wasn't my best match that's for sure," Myskina said. "Because of Loit's style it's hard to play your best tennis."
While all-Russian finals were a staple on tour last year, with many of the top stars out with injuries, there have been none in 2005 with the return to semi-health of the Williams sisters and Belgians Justine Henin-Hardenne and Kim Clijsters.
"I'm hoping for a Russian final tomorrow," Myskina said. "There was a US Open final and a French (in 2004), so why not a Stockholm?"
Myskina has never previously faced her countrywoman Douchevina, and is 2-0 versus Srebotnik in tour meetings.
