Top Seeds Jankovic, Vaidisova Win at WTA Seoul

Top seeds Jelena Jankovic (d. Bremond) and Nicole Vaidisova (d. (LL) Laine, bagel in the second) posted straight-set wins Tuesday to advance into the second round at the WTA stop in Seoul.


Other seeded winners Tuesday were (4) Gisela Dulko (d. (Q) Hrdinova) and (5) Ai Sugiyama (d. Craybas from a set down).

American Laura Granville posted the upset of the day, winning from a set down against No. 7 Shahar Peer.

Qualifiers recorded a 2-1 record on the day, with winners Martina Muller (d. Arvidsson from a set down) of Germany and Japan's Saori Obata (d. Vento-Kabchi), and Puerto Rico's Vilmarie Castellvi coming out on the losing end against Colombia's Catalina Castano.

Also into round two was Japan's Akiko Morigami with a three-set win over France's Camille Pin.

On tap for Wednesday in Seoul are Golovin vs. Gallovits, Pratt vs. S.Kim, Jankovic vs. Shaughnessy, and Nakamura vs. Douchevina.
