Jelena Jankovic at the Istanbul Cup.
The No. 78-ranked Sprem will next face the winner of American
Mashona Washington and a qualifier.
No. 6 seed
Catalina Castano was the only seed safely through to the second round Monday, defeating
Alona Bondarenko in straight sets.
Other unseeded players into the second round were Swiss
Emmanuelle Gagliardi (d. Daniilidou who retired with injury), Dutchwoman
Michaella Krajicek (d. Kotkina who retired with injury), and
Tsvetana Pironkova (d. Diaz-Oliva in three).
