Mauresmo Tops Quality Field This Week in Stuttgart
Posted on October 2, 2006The Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart is the place to be of the three WTA Tour events this week, where world No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo is joined by fellow Top 10ers Svetlana Kuznetsova, Elena Dementieva, Nadia Petrova, Patty Schnyder and Dinara Safina.
Also among the seeded are Francesca Schiavone and Jelena Jankovic.
Among the unfortunates last week, Schiavone dropped to 0-8 in career finals in Luxembourg, losing to unheralded Alona Bondarenko, and Jankovic retired during a match due to the heat at Guangzhou.
The top four seeds receive byes in Stuttgart, with early-round matches of interest including (5) Schnyder vs. Chanda Rubin, and (8) Jankovic vs. Mary Pierce.
Other players of note in the field are Tatiana Golovin, Shahar Peer, Daniela Hantuchova, and Anna-Lena Groenefeld.
Mauresmo lost in last year's straight-set final to Lindsay Davenport.
