Hrbaty v Davydenko in Paris Final, Blake in Masters

James Blake qualified in the final No. 8 spot for the year-end Masters Cup Saturday when Tommy Haas retired in the semifinals of the Masters Series-Paris against Dominik "The Dominator" Hrbaty, citing an illness.

"I started throwing up in the morning and I feel like doing it again right now," Haas said. "It must be a virus. It's bad luck. I was playing really well."

In the star-challenged final Hrbaty will face Nikolay Davydenko, who in his semifinal beat Tommy Robredo 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

"It's not the best way to win but I'm in the final," Hrbaty said of Haas' retirement. "I don't play finals every day so I'm happy about that."

Davydenko avenged his finals loss to Robredo at Bastad in July. The Russian won 87 percent of his first serves, with four aces and two double faults.

"It's looking good for Shanghai," Davydenko said. "It's the same surface as here and also the same balls. I'm really confident."

Robredo also qualified for the Masters Cup during the week. Haas needed to win the title to edge Blake for the 8th spot in Shanghai.

The doubles final will be Santoro/Zimonjic vs. Frenchmen Clement/Llodra.
