I agree with Kimmi. After seeing Stosur vs. Henin, I think Serena might be pushed more than she was at the AO versus Sam. Sam’d have to play really well to beat Serena though, serve well and keep the UEs low.

Stosur has beaten Serena once and had match points against her another time. Granted neither of those were at a Grand Slam though… there is a different Serena playing grand slams than there is on the regular tour. As noted above by Kimmi and Jane Stosur is strong on clay. I think it could be a three setter but may still fall Serena’s way. Either way hope it is a high quality match.

While i am a Serena Williams fan, I also have a great respect for Sam Stosur and have been really impressed by her prowess. Despite Thangs comment that anyone but Serena would be preferable, whether you like it or not, you have to commend for the fact that she is playing extremely well on her least favorite surface. As much as i (and most) were anticipating a Serena-Justine match, this matchup is more fitting. Many commentators already had the tournament sewn up to hand it to Justine, which was a slap in the face to the other women who are playing good clay-court tennis. Its been a great tournament, and may the best woman win.

I’m thrilled there will be a first-time winner guaranteed, and it’s only the semis. Can’t remember the last time this happened. I really don’t know who I’d like to see win. Stosur has taken out two big guns, but I’d also love to see Jankovic or Dementieva win.

PJ – well said! I agree with the sentiments expressed in your post. I too am happy to know that we will have a new FO champion on the women’s side this Sunday, come what may. And what a remarkable win from Stosur, who showed such resolve to beat an always feisty Serena Williams 8-6 in the final set. Good for her!

Wow! great effort from Stosur. She lost it a bit during the second set, but way to come back in the third. That inside out forehand of hers is just a beauty to watch.
She has been doing really well this year. Let’s see how well she can do in the semis.

Sorry about Djoko’s loss. He was two sets ahead. I did not see the first 4 sets and don’t know what happened. He was breathing heavily in the 5th though.

I thought the call against him was unfair. It made a 0-30 to a 15-15 at a very critical point. They totally need to put the Hawk-eye on clay.

zola, thanks. Hope you stay around here. You were missed! Ah well, as he said in his presser, he shouldn’t’ve let it get that far, but on the other hand, Melzer played some great tennis to beat Novak in a tight 5 set contest. It happens. Maybe he’ll do better next time. Hope so.

Thanks a lot for the nice words. I have been really busy in the past few months. I enjoy the discussions here and will try to be here as much as I can.

we have to wait and see how Rafa will do. Mezler probably will go to that SF match with lots of confidence and if he can win that, either Soderling or Berdych ( I think it will be Soderling) will not be easy opponents. Sunday will be a wet day, which will suit power-hitters more. Will be nice if Rafa can pull it off.
