Novak Djokovic will have an extra few days to recover from any ailments he may have this week at the US Open. The Serb was scheduled to play today on Arthur Ashe but his opponent, Jiri Vesely, withdrew with a left forearm injury.

Thanks to the walkover, Djokovic will await the Guido Pella-Mikhail Youzhny winner on Friday. And the 23-year-old Vesely beat Djokovic in their only meeting earlier this year in April at Monte Carlo.

Djokovic has been battling a left wrist and an arm injury, for which he received treatment Monday night.

3 Comments for Novak Djokovic Receives US Open Walkover When Jiri Vesely Withdraws

RZ Says:

Walkovers can be a double-edged sword. They provide extra rest and respite, but they also can lead to the player with the walkover to be less sharp when they play their next match. But I would assume this would help Novak with his various arm issues.

Travis Bickle Says:

Good for Vesely!

The injury is not that serious and his positive H2H with Djoker stays unchanged… One of the very few guys in the world that can make such a claim!

Van Persie Says:

Am not glad that Vesely is hurt, but will be honest, was a bit relieved for Nole. This break might do him good. For once he is a bit lucky with the draw, with the help of tennis gods of course.- correct thread this time :)
