Poll: Who’s Your Early Favorite To Win Wimbledon?

A year after Novak Djokovic won his 4th straight Major, the tennis world has been flipped this season. The Serb and co-hort Andy Murray has slumped while the legends Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have regained control of the tour, sweeping both Slams and taking four of the five Masters events.

Will that continue at Wimbledon or can Djokovic, Murray win on the grass? Or can someone outside the favorite Big 4 like Milos Raonic, Alexander Zverev or Nick Kyrgios, break through for a first Slam.

Based on the seedings, 3 Federer and 4 Nadal could only meet in the final, and the same for 2 Djokovic and 1 Murray.

Matej Says:

Đoković never won 5 straight majors. He won 4th straight when he lifted Roland Garros trophy. Just sain’. :o)

gonzalowski Says:

Hmm Berdych beat Rafa today 6-3 6-2 in an exho….
bad sign! hopes for Rafa, but I voted for Fed

Wog Boy Says:

Friend who saw the match yesterday told me there is encouraging sign from Nole…he stopped titting in the post match celebration, anybody can confirm that?
If that’s the case maybe one cycle is closed and the other one open, hopefully better one.

Wog Boy Says:

Forget it, my friend was wrong, still titting:(

Humble Rafa Says:

titting..oh god. Xisca is mad!

Czarlazar Says:

Titting is so Gay! Not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course, but I’d respect Nole more if he pulled out his cock after wins and displayed it proudly to all four corners of the crowd. Slightly more bold and less effeminate than the titting. Does coach Agassi have a suggestion box?

Willow Says:

Wogboy he did still do the boob throwing thingy, but i did watch the match yesterday, and from what i saw he seems to be playing much better, the commies said hes showing the form that won him 3 Wimbledon titles, we will see how he fairs going forward ….

Navdeep Says:

boob throwing lol. Nole needs to stop it because it just doesn’t look good anyway.

Willow Says:

Czarlazar lol, i dont think he should pull out his wotsit though, he might get arrested for indecent exposure ….

squirrel Says:

I predict Federer-Nadal final with Federer wins in 4 sets! of course, it will be more fun to predict when the draw is out tomorrow, so let’s come back again tomorrow, okayyyy

so, gay = effeminate? hmmm

J-Kath Says:

Squirrel:

I must prepare you for your loss….the final is between Denis the 18-year old Canadian and Medevev the 21 year old Russian. Here’s a bunch of monkey nuts and a big hug to console you.

squirrel Says:

J-kath:

Really?? oh damnnn, thanks for the heads-up! You have prepared me mentally, lol. If that’s true, imagine…haha

What’s your prediction??

madmax Says:

Squirrel,

We will turn back the clock. Federer v Nadal final. Federer to come through.

Andy a close third. Really feel the excitement building; I like your thought process.

Pamela Says:

Not to sound too dim, but what does “titting” mean? I watched Roger beat the young Zverev and Roger was flawless… I do hope he wins again… I think both him and those of us that are fans, would love to see him win one more as his time is coming for retirement, whether it be next year or in 3 years…. I also think Sasha Zverev has an amazing future ahead of him…

Willow Says:

Pamela when Novak finishes his matches he does that celebration thingy, with his hands against his chest, Giles calls it boob throwing, Wogboy calls it titting ….

Willow Says:

I Wont predict anything, because usually when i do im wrong, ill miss the first week of Wimbledon as i will be going away on a road trip ….

Willow Says:

For me ill be happy if i come back of holiday a week on Monday, and Nadals still in the tournament …

J-Kath Says:

Madmax & Squirrel:

It won’t be Andy -he’ll likely pull out with his sore hip – being the winner last year he is supposed to open the tournament – no way will he risk doing that with a sore hip.

Humble Rafa Says:

This site should conduct a poll like this with only one option – the Arrogant One.

I like my changes..of losing in the 2nd round.

Daniel Says:

Djoko in semis in eastbourne, very winnalbe tourney for him now.

A title could do him good entering Wimbledon

chrisford1 Says:

With all 4 of the Big 4 over 30, math and physics time:

KE on lower body joints equals 1/2*MV^2. Andy and Rafa are more muscular and heavy than the other 2.
Roger plays shorter points than Novak so his cumulative KE summed per match is less.
But Djokovic dissipates his KE per ball in play over a longer period of time on hardcourt than Federer does, via sliding. Going from 30kph to zero over 2 second causes no acute or chronic injury. Going from 30kpb to 0 over 3 milliseconds as you hit a tree biking or skiing messes you up.

Subjectively, though, advantage to get less wear and tear goes to Federer from shorter points because he slides too on clay and grass, and sliding does not benefit Djokovic on pushing off on HC or sudden changes in direction.

Nadal has modern medicine extending the life of his knees with some fairly exotic treatments and drugs. I believe he would have had to quit by now on injuries – had he played in even the 90s.

Willow Says:

Back handed compliments to every player not named Novak Djokovic, always an air of anymosity in there somewhere ….

J-Kath Says:

Willow: I’m away from 4th July until 10th – they might manage without one of us – but oh dear, without both of us?…the poor wee laddies….they’ll get everything wrong in our absence. Let’s call in Margot and Courbon, Okie & AMira and JS…and where is Jane?

J-Kath Says:

PS: And RZ – always a calming presence.

squirrel Says:

Madmax

Totally agree with you, like your thought process as well.

squirrel Says:

J-kath,

What do you mean Andy will pull out?? I hope he’ll be ready for Wimby, it will be more exciting with the Big 4, that way you always have matches to look forward to everyday!

Sorry Willow you had to miss the first week, we’ll keep you updated!

squirrel Says:

J-kath, you won’t be her either??

Yeah you’re right, absence of both you and Willow is a travesty! :(

Willow Says:

Thankyou Squirrel, your very kind, unfortunatly i wont have access to a computer while im away to read those updates ….

Willow Says:

J-Kath its a small road trip seeing old friends and celebrating the summer solstice , whats your , perhaps we will bump into each other ?, miss those posters too ….

J-Kath Says:

Squirrel: Latest from Andy – the hip – he pulled out of Friday’s exhibition….Wimbledon….?????

Willow: Work – I’m helping with a huge wedding….been doing it all season – will be there again same time in August…it’s north-west Scotland. Have major work scheduled chez-moi!!! Alas summer ain’t long enuf.

It’s the posters who are supposed to miss us…..Yepie-yep-yep.

RZ Says:

Wish I could say it was Andy, but am going with Fed.

RZ Says:

Thanks J-Kath. I generally try to stay calm, but once in a while that Big 4 argument comes up…

Wishing you and Willow fun and safe trips.

RZ Says:

Hey all, I’m hoping I’ll be able to post the ATP bracket challenge tomorrow. I’m assuming tomorrow is draw day.

steve-o Says:

C’mon Roger!

He’s rested and refreshed, and got his game back in order after winning Halle. Given his record at Wimbledon and how well he’s played this year, I’d put him as the favorite.

Nadal will be in the final, despite the usual sandbagging complaints about his supposedly fragile knees. He played extremely well on clay and I am sure he will go deep at Wimbledon.

Murray and Djokovic, I don’t think they are going to make it, although probably they will get to the second week.

Cilic is a dark horse who could cause some upsets, since he’s playing really well (he was just one point away from his second Queens title).

J.S. Says:

Steve-o
Not another Roger fanatic…geez! Why can’t Roger fans like anyone besides him? What will you do when he retires?
Being a Rafa fan myself i like other player too and only a few I don’t like watching (blessing/titling/boobing guy) but if he’d stop that, I would could stand him being Top4.
I agree Rafa didn’t play well in exhibition and that is concerning, Andy has bad hip, yikes!! And….Thiem/Zverev aren’t there yet!!

Bring on the bracket – I’m winning this one!! RZ you on schedule??

joe strummer Says:

nadull won’t survive wimby’s lush grass (1st week).

squirrel Says:

RZ,

I’d like to join the bracket challenge for the first time! Do I need specific things? Sorry, I’m a newbie! :)

Willow Says:

Squirrel, RZ will put up the link sometime today, and you click on and the instructions are there to follow, once you get in its pretty straight forward to navigate ….

squirrel Says:

ok thanks! excited! haha :)

Willow Says:

I Like Steve-Os summary of Nadal been in the final, even if i dont see it being realistic ….

Willow Says:

J.S some Fed fans have Novak, Murray, Delpo as a second, some only like Fed and thats it, but lets be honest here it was never going to be Rafa as a second favorite, hell would likely freeze over first, having said that there was a poster called M who was a Fedal fan but this is rare extremeley rare ….

squirrel Says:

I’m a Fed fan and I did pick Nadal as a second, see my post above ;)

Willow Says:

Squirrel :-) ….

squirrel Says:

So excited for the draw! Will start in 13 minutes :)

Here, if you want to follow the live update: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/tennis/2017/06/30/wimbledon-2017-draw-live-will-andy-murray-roger-federer-face/

squirrel Says:

PROJECTED QUARTER-FINALS

Murray v Wawrinka
Nadal v Cilic
Raonic v Federer
Thiem v Djokovic

Damn, was hoping Fed would get Thiem. But me think he can handle Raonic.

Cilic vs Nadal, that would be breathtaking to watch!

Willow Says:

Andy will play a lucky loser or a qualifier 1st round ….

Willow Says:

Dont think history will repeat itself but Raonic beat Federer last year in the semis ….

squirrel Says:

Yes he did beat Federer last year but it was very close..and Fed wasn’t 100% (at least for me..)

Dokovic-Fed semifinal, time for Fed’s revenge, haha!

Navdeep Says:

A potential Novak vs Delpo in third round!

squirrel Says:

Fed’s bfirst round opponent is Alexandre Dolgopolov! That’s tough……

Navdeep Says:

Federer vs Dolgopolov! now that’s interesting. No doubt a very tasty affair.

squirrel Says:

Hope it will only help Fed having a very tough first-round opponent. It could be very bad as well…we’ll see!

squirrel Says:

Not better for Djokovic as he’ll face Martin Klizan for first round!

Navdeep Says:

Novak to begin against Klizan! first few matches are really interesting

Willow Says:

I Dont want interesting matches for my favorites, i want easy ones ….

el_matador Says:

hope delpo atleast makes it to the 3rd round to face novak..1st round vs kokkinakis..would be very sad if he is out in 1st round

Navdeep Says:

Willow lol don’t worry Rafa I think has got an easy one( compared to other guys) against millman

Willow Says:

Navdeep yes im selfish i want easy matches for Rafa, easy and boring dont care, i want to come back from my holiday next Monday to find hes sailed through with no drama, yeah yeah i can hear the sniggering at the back from the naysayers, that will be saying aint gonna happen lol ….

Willow Says:

I Was shocked Delpo is even playing, dont see him going far he will be so rusty he hasnt played for ages, and last time he played Novak he was torn apart, unless Delpo is completely fit, i dont think that match up is as exciting as people think anymore ….

Navdeep Says:

Of course even I want easy matches for Rafa. These matches are interesting for because Rafa is not in them lol

squirrel Says:

Why so worried Willow? Despite the surface, he is in an AMAZING form (need I remind you that he didn’t lose a single set in FO). Yes, surface is important, but I believe all top players know how to adjust to surface, the more important factor is form, and Rafa is fine there. So if I were you, I wouldn’t worry much and trust my guy.

Having said that, I do believe that Rafa could lose to Kyrgios in the fourth round….

Navdeep Says:

Hey any news about krygios ?

squirrel Says:

@el matador

My though exactly, Delpo is not very lucky to dwo Kokkinakis for forst round. Hope he makes it to face Djokovic in the third…

squirrel Says:

@Navdeep

The last news is that he claimed he could win Wimbledon this year. Take it with a grain of salt of course…

Navdeep Says:

Rafa vs krygios in fourth round again! you gotta be kidding me!

squirrel Says:

Yeah, history sometimes does repeat itself…

J-Kath Says:

Why is everyone so worried about Kyrgios?…he can be stunning but usually is thinking of his next beer

el_matador Says:

@willow
I can accept if delpo wins 2 matches and then loses to novak,it will be a great tourney for him..I am not excited about delpo-novak..I just support delpo(is it blasphemy to support other players except “big 4”?)

Navdeep Says:

J-kath
Krygios does keep his head on a tree for most of the time but when it comes to playing against the big players he seems to get his head back on as we have seen multiple times before.

Mridul Says:

Isn’t Kyrgios in Murray’s half?

Amit Says:

Federer hairstyle working bigtime against him!! Unlucky haircut!! Dolgopolov is tough 1st rd opponent 😬😬😬

squirrel Says:

hahahah Amit, now I’m starting to believe you on the hair curse!lol

Mridul Says:

Rafa’s 4th round opponent might be Muler

Mridul Says:

Muller*

Mridul Says:

Rafa might be out in the 3rd Round, he faces Khachanov who gave a lot of trouble to Federer last week in Halle.

squirrel Says:

Yes Mridul you’re absolutely right, I got confused with so many names! Good news then for Rafa :)

But bad news for Murray, but then again, sometimes Kyrgious just doesn’t show up!

Mridul Says:

Except the first round, Murray has a horror draw, he could face Dustin Brown in R2, Fognini in R3, then Kyrgios and then Wawrinka!

Mridul Says:

And Wawrinka also has a scary looking first round against Medvedev.

squirrel Says:

Yeah it’s true, very tough for Andy indeed. Vs Fognini, they actually split the head-to-head.

Navdeep Says:

So krygios in Murray’s half. That’s a relief for Rafa surely.

Giles Says:

squirrel. Sorry to say this but your moniker gives me the creeps! Had squirrels play havoc with my roof some years ago! :)

gonzalowski Says:

IMO good draw for Rafa, but anyway in this surface I think he can lose to anybody

Giles Says:

^^^^ Why so negative? A little positivity won’t go amiss! Geez!

J-Kath Says:

Oh dear-a-me. Andy might win first match but after that he is a marked man!!

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/tennis/2017/06/30/andy-murray-grimaces-practice-session-amid-wimbledon-fitness/

Margot Says:

They’re talking about Andy withdrawing, on Beeb.

Mridul Says:

But can he withdraw after the draw is made?

J-Kath Says:

Mridul:

Yes – lots of players have withdrawn – it gives a walk-over to his opponent.

Margot:
He is winching and limping – no way, no way can he play.

squirrel Says:

Oh my god, seriously? That would suck…hope it’s not true.

Mridul Says:

so, I guess his time is up at No. 1 ranking..Rafa to take over now.

J-Kath Says:

Mridul:

First off – it’s very, very sad. His fans don’t really care about the No. 1 spot – just about Andy.

Squirrel: Thanks for your comment.

Navdeep Says:

Andy I hope ur okay. It’s always a pleasure watching you play. Specially on grass. But if the injury is serious then it’s better to withdraw than aggravating it.

Willow Says:

Fingers crossed, no news is good news i suppose, not heard anything about him pulling out, i dont care about the number 1 ranking just hope Andy is fit to play ….

squirrel Says:

Yeah me too, no news is good news. I googled éandy murrayé on google news, so glad that the resulting articles were all talking about his draw, and not the W word!

We’re with you, J-Kath!

jalep Says:

Here we go!!

Willow, Margot, Andy Mira, RZ, and everyone welcome. Come on and try a WTA Wimbledon bracket(s). You can enter 4 brackets per email/registration…whoopee…lots of tries at it :D

https://www.tourneytopia.com/RacquetBracketWimbledonWTA/jalep4/default.aspx

Mridul Says:

Lendl said that he will be fit for Wimbledon. And his fans should care about the no. 1 ranking..its a thing to be proud of..I am certainly said since Novak lost that.

jalep Says:

So sorry to read about Andy. I just read Konta has a spine injury.

squirrel Says:

Done it Jalep! haha

Predicting Muguruza vs Kvitova final with Muguruza winning! :)

jalep Says:

You did it already?? Wow that was fast!!!!

Did you Join the linked WTA Pool?

Bold pick — Muguruza. Actually I think anyone is a bold pick hahaha

jalep Says:

Indeed you are IN, squirrel! good job.

Like I said, you can tweak your bracket, create and enter 3 more squirrel’s, if you so desire.

I think I’ll pick Karolina, Petra, Halep and a secret sauce dark horse :D

squirrel Says:

hahahah, yeah you’re right, any player would be a bold choice, but your choices are bolder than me i think!

what is the WTA Pool? I’m sorry, I’m very new here.

Yeah it’s true that I could put three more bracket, but somehow not that motivated, surely for atp though… :(

jalep Says:

Okay, you sound confident about it! I’m not at all confident. Like I said, you are IN the bracket private pool. You got in just like a pro. I post the link here and on Tenngrand — you are welcome to invite anyone you think is interested in the WTA bracket game :)

Good Luck Squirrel. Happy you joined. Welcome.

Colin Says:

I haven”t the least idea what a “bracket” is, and I am not interested. However, the latest news about Andy, which I have mentioned elsewhere, makes me happier about his chances at Wimbledon. He and Kim are expecting their second child, which I think will put him in a good frame of mind.
