Halep, Pliskova, Wozniacki, Kerber Head Premier Field In Doha
A loaded Doha event with six of the Top 10 opens on Monday with a blockbuster field comprised of three former champions and three finalists.
2014 champion Simona Halep returns with David Goffin’s ex coach, Thierry Van Cleemput. Halep had Van Cleemput with her at the end of the Australian Open, but this week will mark his official debut on the WTA.
Former champions Karolina Pliskova and Carla Suarez Navarro are also in the draw, plus past finalists Caroline Wozniacki, Jelena Ostapenko and Angelique Kerber.
Petra Kvitova beat Garbine Muguruza in the 2018 final, but neither player return this year. Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka withdrew due to a back as did Madison Keys.
Halep could meet Ash Barty in her quarterfinal then either Elina Svitolina or Wozniacki in the semifinals.
Kerber, Pliskova and Suarez-Navarro are in the bottom half.
Six different players have won the title the last six years.
