Host favorite Spain along with Serbia, Great Britain and Australia all advanced to the Davis Cup quarterfinals.

Led by Rafael Nadal, Spain won both their ties finishing 5-1 in rubbers. Spain will now take on Argentina who will put Diego Schwartzman against Nadal in Madrid. Rafa won all 3 of his rubbers.

Spain has never lost to Argentina in the Davis Cup.

Novak Djokovic won both his matches to get Serbia into the last also winning five of six rubbers. Serbia, though, will be up against a deep Russian team which boasts Karen Khachanov and Andrey Rublev.

Djokovic has lost just nine games in two matches.

In the final tie of the quarters, Great Britain meets Germany for a 10th time, first since 1973.

Germany’s Philipp Kohlscreiber is 2-0 thus far while Great Britain might have the services again of Andy Murray who didn’t play today in their win over Kazakhstan.

“There is no awkwardness about who is going to play, who isn’t going to play, it is a good, open and honest discussion. That’s what we will do again,” team captain Leon Smith told the BBC on if Murray would play.

“It might be one of the more difficult decisions I’ve had to make, but it is also better when you have got the quality we’ve got to be able to have those discussions.

“We can look at who is in the best physical condition, and look at the match-ups again, linking those factors together to do what is best for the team.

“Because we are scheduled tomorrow evening it gives us time to see if everybody is right and how they feel.”

Murray, Dan Evans and Kyle Edmund are available for singles.

Canada already advanced to the semifinals today beating Australia 2-1 as Vasek Pospisil won his singles over John Millman and the doubles with Denis Shapovalov.

Canada will now await the Serbia-Russia winner in the Saturday semifinals.

End of an era, guys. Novak can’t do it all.

They were so close, 6-3 in the tiebreaker. 3 match points, and Troicki blew 2, including an easy putaway on the last when he had on open court and went long, the story goes. Then Troicki blew a returnable serve to give Team Russia the win.
As the saying goes, Viktor managed to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory and all the Serb fans and team standing who believed victory was at hand at 6-3 in the tiebreaker probably felt like Fed’s fans and team did on 2 match points Roger had.

Wog Boy Says:

This was bloody sad to watch, they are all crying (Filip, Viktor, captain Zimonjic, Nole)..
